Job fair planned to help Plywood employees
Job fair targets
A job fair organized to help some of the 170 displaced Rutland Plywood employees will be held Friday at the Holiday Inn in Rutland Town.
From noon to 3 p.m. at the conference center, roughly 20 employers from around the region will have information and applications available for about 100 full-time, part-time and temporary job positions, said Wendy Morse, regional manager of the Department of Labor.
The 70 full-time and 100 part-time and temporary employees at Rutland Plywood all lost jobs Aug. 21 when fire leveled the 84,000-square-foot plant in Rutland Town.
Rutland Plywood officials havenít decided whether they will rebuild ó but officials have said even if the company does rebuild, it might be two years before a new plant is complete.
Normally, the Department of Labor hosts two job fairs a year in May and October, Morse said. But the fire and large-scale job loss have prompted the agency to add a third hiring session.
Morse said the companies hiring at the job fair represent a diverse cross-section of construction, manufacturing, health care and service industry businesses.
