ANDOVER — Ann Tiemann Farrar, 87, of Andover died Wednesday morning, August 27, 2014, at Springfield Hospital, Springfield.
She was the widow of Francis Putnam Farrar, who predeceased her on October 2, 1999. She was the daughter of Philip and Isabel (Carr) Tiemann of Windy Hill, Cavendish, where the family had moved in 1933, from Chatham, NJ.
Mrs. Farrar attended grade school in Cavendish, and High School in Ludlow; Louisville, KY; and Fort Benning, GA, graduating from Brattelboro (VT) High School in 1944. She received an Associates Degree in 1946 from what was then Green Mountain Junior College in Poultney.
Following College Ann moved to New York City where she worked for three years before returning to Cavendish in 1949 to help on the family farm.
She met her husband, Francis, through the Grange in Proctorsville. They were married in May 1951 and moved to a house on his family’s property in Chester. Francis later built a house further up the hill in Andover, where Ann lived until her death, together with her son Peter Tiemann Farrar.
Her eldest son, Francis Putnam Farrar Jr., lives in Lexington, GA, expecting to move with his wife Jane Ellis Farrar, to Killen, AL, shortly.
The middle son, Timothy John Farrar and his wife Noel Farrar have a house nearby in Chester.
Christopher Mark Farrar lives in California, and has been employed by IBM Corporation in San Jose for many years.
Daniel Field Farrar is Recycling Coordinator at the Recycling Center in Springfield, and lives in Chester.
All the sons are able to be here to support one another in this difficult time.
Ann also has a brother, Philip Wyeth Tiemann, Jr., living in Augusta, ME. His five living children are located around Maine and on Martha’s Vineyard. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her sister Joyce Molineux Tiemann has retired to West Lebanon, NH.
Ann’s major interest has been in quilting many lovely items, along with other needlework. She has been blessed in her membership of many years in the Andover Community Church and until a few years ago enjoyed being part of the Sewing Circle. She deeply appreciated the many strong friendships which resulted over the years.
Cremation services are being arranged by Eternal Blessings Crematorium of Guilford. A Memorial Service will be held at the Andover Community Church, Andover, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014.
