WEST HAVEN — Carol Ann Thomson, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 22, 1945, the daughter of Richard and Lucille (Mielcarek) Schaaf.
In New York, she graduated from West Seneca (N.Y.) High School in 1964, received her associate degree from Niagara Community College and earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Brockport State.
Mrs. Thomson taught at Middlesex Elementary School, worked as a substitute teacher at several Danby area schools, and was the librarian at Wallingford Elementary School. She retired in 2007 as an employment counselor for the State of New York, following 30 years of service.
She was a member of Castleton Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed crocheting, fishing, camping and playing bingo. She was known as a master seamstress.
Survivors include her husband, John Thomson of West Haven, whom she married in Danby Nov. 24, 1973; one son, John Thomson of Dickinson, N.D.; a brother, Richard Schaaf Jr. of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; two grandsons; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Thomson was predeceased by two siblings, Karen and John Schaaf.
The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven, where friends may call from 11 a.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of First Congregational Church of Fair Haven.
Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
