Woman jailed on burglary charges
A Rutland woman was jailed Tuesday on $25,000 bail, charged with breaking into a home on Wheelerville Road in Mendon and stealing several items including two cases of beer.
Lynn M. Campeau, 37, pleaded innocent in Rutland criminal court to a felony charge of burglary and a misdemeanor count of unlawful mischief.
Judge Theresa DiMauro set bail at $25,000 for Campeau, who remained in the Rutland jail Tuesday evening.
Vermont State Police arrested Campeau after receiving a call Monday from a woman who said she gave the woman a ride to a home on the remote dirt road Sunday to grab items Campeau said sheíd left at her motherís home there.
The woman told police Campeau directed her to a home on the road and then told her that her mother had forgotten to give her a key so she had to climb through a basement window to get in, according to court records.
Campeau eventually came out with several bags, and as they were driving away Campeau allegedly began laughing and confessed to her friend that her mother didnít own a camp.
Campeauís friend, who police say was worried that she had been an unwitting accomplice, told police about the incident and troopers spoke with the Wheelerville homeís owner, who reported minor damage to his locks and two cases of beer missing.
Police say they later recovered the beer from Campeauís refrigerator.
