In memory of John J. Paige of Ludlow, who passed away on Saturday, June 14.

John served the Ludlow community for many years as the town health officer and as a cemetery commissioner. Having served with John on the Cemetery Commission, I would like the members of our community to know how dedicated he was. John was anxious to see that a large hole in the new section was filled and improved, which took several years and was finally completed last year.

A new waterline for irrigation was also added to the upper section, power to the upper maintenance building, new office in the lower building, new flag station and many more small and large improvements to our cemetery.

John was always conservative with our tax monies, and before he would discuss any prospective improvements, his first question was “do we have the money in the budget,” and then we could proceed with the discussion on the merits of the improvements. John was a progressive cemetery commissioner who favored many of the projects and improvements providing they always benefitted the taxpayer and the folks who had need of our cemeteries.

I could write more, however I think many of us know of John’s dedication to Ludlow. When visiting the Pleasant View Cemetery you can reflect upon the many improvements that John was an integral part of and take a moment to thank Commissioner John Paige for a job well done.
