Three men rescued from swift current

HARTLAND — Rescuers have come to the aid of three people who went into the water and faced a brisk current at Vermont’s Sumner Falls in Hartland.

State police say the three men were at the Sumner Falls picnic area off Route 5 on Monday. They were fishing. One of them, who has autism, went into the water, and the others jumped in to help him. All three were last seen moving downriver and emergency crews were called.

After a short amount of time, all three were safely recovered and no one suffered serious injuries.
