Narrow vision of labor’s needs
Could the VSEA’s vision of organized labor as expressed by Steve Howard be any tinier? How about concerning themselves with employee issues such as mobility, flexibility, supporting family responsibilities, telecommuting to expand the available applicant pool, education, training, pay equity. When VSEA stops spending so much time and resource in maintaining incompetent and mediocre employees, and starts returning value to the taxpayers, then the taxpayers will elect pro-union legislators. As a former state employee and VSEA member, I have walked long distances to get to my workplace and have had to cope with blazing hot and freezing cold buildings. Compared to the issues facing Vermonters today, I’d be ashamed to identify those as major concerns to define my organization and membership.
