    William Francis Berard

    BENNINGTON — William Francis Berard, age 84, a resident of Burgess Road in Bennington died on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

    He was born in Bennington on Aug. 10, 1929 and was the son of the late Ephrem and Marguerite (Roy) Berard. He received his education at Sacred Heart School and is a graduate of Bennington High School. Bill has served in the Army.

    On February 26, 1949 he married the former Virginia ‘Ginny’ Stratton. They have been married for sixty-five years.

    Bill has been a member of the Bennington Moose Lodge #1233 for over fifty years and has held all offices and is a Past Governor. He also is a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington.

    He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and doing puzzle books.

    Survivors besides his wife Ginny include his sons, Steve and his wife Dawn Berard of St. Johnsbury, Bill and his wife Charleene Berard of Pownal, Michael and his wife Kim Berard of Bennington; daughters, Jean Berard of Bennington; Susan and her husband Roy Sanders of Mississippi, Esther McGarvin of Bennington, Deborah Berard of Bennington, and Becky and her husband Shawn Legacy of Shaftsbury. He leaves 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one nephew, one niece and many cousins.

    He is predeceased by one daughter, Catherine, one son, Joseph, two granddaughters, Jody and Kristi and one sister, Bernadette.

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2014 at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington at 3 p.m. with his grandson, the Rev. Damian J. Legacy officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
