    Police trying to

    check on jumper

BURLINGTON — Police in Burlington are hoping to check on the welfare of a man they say jumped off a ferry into Lake Champlain over the weekend.

Police said the man jumped about 11 p.m. Saturday, close to shore. The Burlington Free Press reports police, fire, and U.S. Coast Guard officers responded, but were unable to find the man to check on him.

The man was described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s about 6 feet tall, medium build, and wearing a light-colored shirt. Police said they received multiple reports that the man made it to shore and ran off.
