    on probation

BURLINGTON — Burlington College says it has been placed on two years’ probation for financial reasons by the regional accrediting agency.

The college located in Vermont’s largest city made the announcement Monday.

The college was accredited in 2007 by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, an arm of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Burlington Free Press reports the college failed to meet one of the association’s 11 standards, a financial criteria. The college did not specify which criteria.

The college is in danger of losing its accreditation.

Burlington College serves “approximately 290 students,” up from 190 three years ago. The college says its long-term plan is to increase enrollment to 500 to 750 students.
