    Ham radio event

    set for weekend

The Green Mountain Wireless Society will hold an “open house” Saturday and Sunday at Rutland High School’s football field.

Ham radio operators will broadcast from the field announcers’ booth for 24 hours, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday and finishing at 2 p.m. Sunday. Organizers will have a special station set up for visitors to use under the guidance of experienced operators.

Broadcasters will contact other stations locally and around the world.

The event is part of an annual exercise to prepare for emergencies in which ham radio operators often become important communication conduits.
