BRANDON - A little more than 12 hours after the third budget defeat, the Select Board was faced with the unpleasant reality of cutting services to town residents and laying off some of the town's 25 workers when the new fiscal year begins July 1.

The five-member board met in emergency session at the Town Hall Wednesday morning, discussing various scenarios including laying off some workers or reducing the work week of police and public works employees.

The board set the next budget vote for July 22.

A determination on layoffs and a final budget will come up again at a special board meeting called for Thursday at 6 p.m.
