New lanes aren’t working
I promised myself that I would give the newly configured Woodstock Avenue some time to see if the reconfiguration would offer a multitude of benefits far outweighing any discomforts. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings to city officials who have embraced this road rechannelization but it ainít workiní.
The steady stream of traffic heading east and west (and this isnít even ski season) has created a number of problems ó impatient drivers trying desperately to leave their side streets and parking lots to join the line and cars using the turning lane to pass. I left the dump this morning and as I entered onto Gleason Road, I joined 13 cars waiting to get onto Woodstock Avenue. I can easily see how our businesses have been negatively affected as well.
The Woodstock Avenue and Deer Street intersection is still a circus and a dangerous one at that for pedestrians and drivers alike. I live on North Street Extension and have definitely seen more ďshort cutĒ traffic on our street since the changes were made. It was worth looking at folks but enough is enough ó letís get back to the two lanes each way ó it wasnít broken, so, letís not fix it.
