    Woman denies

    choking incident

A Rutland woman denied choking a relative who was trying to evict her over allegations of drug activity.

Andi Majka, 26, of Kinsley Avenue, pleaded innocent Monday in Rutland criminal court to a felony charge of aggravated domestic assault.

She was released on the condition that she stay away from the alleged victim.

Police said the alleged victim received a letter Friday from neighbors accusing Majka of drug activity in the building. When confronted, Majka attacked the woman, trying to strangle her, and the two had to be pulled apart, police said.

Rutland City Police responded at about 4:20 p.m. Friday and brought Majka to the police station. Police said Majka denied the assault and claimed the other woman attacked her.

If convicted, Majka could face up to 15 years in jail.
