    Vote yes for

    school budget

To the voters of Rutland: As a graduate of Rutland High School, I was sad to hear that the budget did not pass.

I am not a resident of Rutland; however, at the time I was to enter high school, I was fortunate enough to be allowed to attend Rutland High School due to school choice. After visiting schools in the area, I chose Rutland because of all it could offer. In addition to attending RHS, I was able to take computer courses through Stafford Technical Center.

RHS was the gateway to my academic career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a computer scientist, acquiring a master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Vermont and currently completing a doctoral program as an algebraic geometer at the University of South Carolina, Columbia.

I encourage you to vote “Yes” for the Rutland city school budget and give your children the same opportunities I enjoyed so they may achieve their dreams.

    BLAKE FARMAN

    Columbia, S.C.
