The Rutland Intermediate School celebrates the hard work of the students Thursday evening at “Show Your Work Night.” This is an annual event at which students and teachers get a chance to take great pride in the work they have been doing throughout the school year.

If you have any doubt about the need to support the city school budget, then you need to attend this event. You’ll find committed teachers proud of their students’ achievements. You’ll find proud students eager to show off their work. And perhaps best of all, you’ll find a big turnout of parents who come to the event because they realize that all of this hard work matters. But what you won’t find is any excess. Refreshments are provided by the parents. Some of the supplies necessary to complete the projects come from the teachers’ wallets. Most of the projects aren’t the result of high-tech production because the technological resources at the school aren’t state-of-the-art.

RIS is a good school. But like other schools in the city, it gets by on a tight budget. Many of the children in Rutland aren’t given the advantages enjoyed by many other kids. Many come from families that are struggling to get by. And although Rutland is a wonderful place for children, children here also face many serious challenges. But they do have good schools. Without your support, the luxury of a decent school for our children is at risk. Please vote to pass the school budget.
