    Anthony L. Cantone, 97, of Rutland died Sunday evening, March 30, 2014, at his residence.

    He was born on April 2, 1916, in Rutland, the son of Angelo and Barbara (Mainolfi) Cantona.

    Mr. Cantone graduated from the Rutland High School in 1933.

    He married Elene McNeil on September 13, 1937.

    Mr. Cantone enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the European Theater prior to his honorable discharge in 1946.

    Mr. Cantone had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring on August 12, 1977, following 31 years. He also was a barber with Clem Abatiell Jr. in the Bardwell House for many years.

    He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #232, American Legion Post #31, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a longtime board member of the St. Joseph Cemetery.

    Mr. Cantone enjoyed walking his dog, Camille, through the neighborhood, hunting and fishing.

    Survivors include two daughters, Barbara McCamley and Darlene Wells, and a sister, Emily Carlson, all of Rutland; three granddaughters, two grandsons, three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Elene M. Cantone, on October 31, 2004; three brothers, Pascal Cantona, Peter Cantone and Joseph Cantone; three sisters, Alice Rita Cobb, Stella Abatiell and Bridgette Blasser.

    There will be no calling hours.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

    Arrangements are by the Aldous Funeral Home.
