    BALTIMORE — Robert F. Metcalf, 93, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Springfield Health & Rehab Center.

    He was born March 15, 1921, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of Harry P. and Lillian (Stoddard) Metcalf.

    He attended schools in Putney, Westminster, Williamstown and Baltimore.

    On Oct. 25, 1943, he married Catherine Cook in Putney. She predeceased him Nov. 13, 2012.

    He was employed at Wiggins Building and Concrete Products in North Springfield, as a mechanic for the Idlenot Dairy in North Springfield for 17 years, and then as a mechanic for Stocker & Austin car dealership in Springfield. He was later employed with Fellows Gear Shaper Co. in North Springfield, retiring in 1983. Throughout the years, he also worked at farming and logging.

    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

    He served the community as a selectman, auditor, and lister.

    He was a member of the North Springfield Baptist Church.

    Survivors include six sons: Robert L.”Bud” Metcalf of Baltimore, Douglas Metcalf of Weathersfield, Scott Metcalf of Springfield, Barry Metcalf of Acworth, N.H., Richard Metcalf of Chester, and Sherman Metcalf of Springfield; two daughters, Diane Moulton of Springfield, and Sharon Bruce of Baltimore; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Leon and Herbert; and three sisters, Florence, Edith, and Stella.

    A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Davis Memorial Chapel. The Rev. George Keeler, pastor of the North Springfield Baptist Church, will officiate. A reception will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the North Springfield Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield, at a later date.

    Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Saturday, March 29.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Springfield Baptist Church, PO Box 23, North Springfield, VT 05150.
