    BENNINGTON — Leona H. Sausville, 97, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington.

    She was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Bennington, the daughter of Charles A. and Delia (Boutin) Sausville.

    She received her education in Bennington, and later graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1939.

    In earlier years, she was employed at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, and for many years worked in a medical office. She later worked as a private-duty nurse.

    She was a member of the Southern Vermont Nursing Association, and a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.

    Survivors include two sisters, Irene Herrick of Bennington and Margaret Munns of North Brookfield, Mass.; and a brother, Robert Sausville of Bennington; and 20 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence F. “Kay” Sausville and Charles J. Sausville, and a sister, Rita S. Kearns.

    The funeral will be held from Mahar and Son Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, with a prayer and then at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday.

    Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to either Sacred Heart School or the Second Chance Animal Shelter, through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
