I read with great interest about the story of the bus full of skiers that collided with a tractor-trailer in West Haven. While these skiers were not visiting our mountain, they were participating in our sport and visiting our state, boosting our economy. I was proud to hear of the amazing response that Rutland Regional Medical Center assembled to deal with such a large-scale event.

Full disclosure, I have just recently joined the Board of Trustees at the hospital. At the RRMC board meeting recently, I heard details of a major mobilization of staff members and resources that were assembled to be able to service such a major disaster. Listening to the behind-the-scenes planning, organization and care that was planned on short notice actually gave me chills. By all accounts, the fast response and high level of care given to these out-of-state guests was remarkable — many noting “we would never receive this level of caring back home.”

I think many of us have taken for granted the amazing asset we have in the community with a first-rate hospital. On behalf of Killington & Pico resort, I would like to thank the staff at RRMC for all you do for our community.
