WALLINGFORD ó The town will fix up the elementary school and sell the Little Red School House.
Voters authorized the sale of the Little Red School House, located on Hartsboro Road in South Wallingford, by a vote of 389-82. Proceeds are to go to the schoolís building sinking fund. The school district also gave the green light to borrow up to $900,000 for renovations at Wallingford Elementary School.
Voters also approved the $2,199,337 school budget, 308-167, while appropriating $15,000 to the school districtís building sinking fund, 337-133.
Voters approved the municipal budget from the floor Monday night, leaving only officer elections to be decided on the city side of the ballot in the voting booths Tuesday.
Town Clerk and Treasurer Julie Sharon fended off challenges for each position from William H. Brooks III. She retained the clerk position 422-88 and the treasurer position 407-106.
Every other race on the ballot was uncontested. The town had no candidates for a two-year seat on the Select Board, and Rose Regula appeared to have claimed it with 79 write-in votes. Bill Brooks managed to garner 24 write-ins, with 57 voters writing in various other names for that position.
