PITTSFORD - A head-on crash this afternoon destroyed a car and a tractor trailer on Route 7 north of the village but only minor injuries were reported, according to Vermont State Police.

The two-lane highway remains only partially open after the crash which took place at about 2:40 p.m. In driving snow and slick conditions, a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Wayne Holt, 74, of Brandon, and a 2001 Mack tractor trailer with a trailer full of marble rocks in tow collided about a mile north of the intersection with the Florence Truck Route.

Police say a witness saw Holt's car veer into the southbound lane forcing the tractor trailer to cut into the northbound lane in an attempt to avoid a head-on crash.

The Corolla and the tractor and trailer ended up off the road on either side of the highway. The tractor trailer rolled over completely with the back of the trailer blocking the entire northbound lane.

Holt and Young were taken by ambulance to Rutland Regional Medical Center.
