The chilling temperatures we have experienced in recent weeks seem to have no affect on music lovers, who will stop at nothing to see a live performance by their favorite musicians. Last Thursday, I trekked up to Killington in the below zero-weather to watch Twiddle. As I sat in the Pickle Barrel Nightclub, still shivering from outside, I couldn’t help but think attendance would be limited. Much to my surprise, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not only was it packed by the time the group took the stage, but the atmosphere was full of good vibes. The show rocked so much, I stayed up past my bedtime so as not to miss one song.

This week I hope that we can share a similar experience, once again, not letting the cold get in our way.

Thursday night, Castleton State College presents the Vida Quartet at 7 p.m. This British guitar quartet has been the talk of music critics, wanting to hear more of their original flavor. Tickets are on sale ranging from $10 to $15 and can be purchased by visiting castletontickets.com or by calling the box office at 468-1119.

Also, you can help keep your Thursday night lively with a performance by The Equalities at the Pickle Barrel Nightclub on Killington Road. This is a non-ticketed event so don’t worry about purchasing ahead. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Friday night, Rick Redington will be at The Wild Fern on Route 100 in Stockbridge for a 7 p.m. show. I have heard nothing but good things about this great little spot, and they have been supporting live music since opening their doors just over a year ago.

Also on Friday, the Michelle Sara Band performs funk and soul at Positive Pie II on State Street in Montpelier. This 21-and-up show begins at 10 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.

Duane Carleton takes the stage at Nipper’s Cafe & Steakhouse on Main Street in Manchester starting at 7 p.m. The venue is located inside the Stamford Motel.

This weekend brings Total White Out to the Pickle Barrel Nightclub. The group will perform both Friday and Saturday nights. Doors open at 8 p.m.

On Saturday night, Rick Redington will be at Taps Tavern in Poultney beginning at 7 p.m. You will most likely be in my company if you make it out for this show, as Redington and this venue are both number ones on my list.

In addition on Saturday night, Rachel Ries will be at Brandon Music on Country Club Road in Brandon for a 7:30 p.m. show.

This singer-songwriter is on tour to celebrate the release of her third album, “Ghost of Gardener,” which hits stores Feb. 18.

Tickets are on sale for $15 and can be purchased by visiting brandon-music.net.

You can catch Bluegrasoles at the American Legion on Main Street in Ludlow this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, membership is not required.

The Aaron Audet Band will be rocking JAX in Killington Saturday night at 10 p.m. Join them for a mix of your favorite cover tunes.

On Sunday, Duane Carleton will entertain mountain-goers at Pico Base Lodge beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday night you can find Duane at JAX for local’s night starting at 9:30 p.m. Rick Redington will be just up the road, where he performs at The Outback, also at 9:30 p.m.

Also, every Monday night, Mihali Savoulidis of Twiddle performs solo at JAX beginning at 9:30 p.m. It is no wonder JAX’s website is supportinglocalmusic.com; you can visit the site for the latest updates.

I filled in for a fellow musician who was under the weather at the Iron Lantern last Saturday, so I want to thank everyone who was able to make it out last minute. I had a great time and I hope that you did too.

As always, please continue to submit your performance dates and times to localspin@gmail.com.
