    BURLINGTON — Vermont’s largest daily newspaper is moving from the downtown Burlington headquarters it has occupied since its founding nearly 200 years ago.

    The newsroom and most of the operations of the Burlington Free Press will move from its College Street home to new headquarters on Bank Street.

    The newspaper reported that its owner — the Gannett Co. — sold its seven-building complex in September to the Handy family, operating as The Great Cedars LLC, for $2.8 million. The Handys plan to convert the buildings to a mix of shops, apartments and office space.

    The newspaper began as a weekly publication in 1827, went daily two decades later and grew to become Vermont’s largest daily newspaper.
