    Trapping seminar

    planned for January

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will hold a free seminar, “Trapping Through the Ice,” at the Edward Kehoe Education Center in Castleton in January.

Bill Pickens, president of the Vermont Trapper’s Association, will lead topics on rules and regulations, trapping equipment, personal safety and trapping techniques. Participants will spend a large portion of the day on Lake Bomoseen.

    The seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 11.

Participants are advised to bring a lunch and dress to be outdoors for a majority of the day.

The department will provide all the trapping equipment.

Register by calling Alison Thomas at 371-9975 or alison.thomas@state.vt.us.

Include your full name, address and daytime phone number in your message. A confirmation letter will be sent.

Beavers and muskrats can be legally trapped until March 31.

Hunter education training coordinator John Pellegrini said the course can help trappers improve their success rate.
