WILMINGTON — Officials from southern Vermont chambers of commerce and regional business officials are joining forces to market their region.

Last week officials met in Wilmington and discussed how to cultivate a message based around promoting the southern part of the state, a project known as the Southern Vermont Sustainable Marketing Project.

The project takes on special importance with the planned closure next year of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant and the potential loss of hundreds of well-paying jobs. A report on the issue is due to be released early next month.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the top advantages mentioned by organizers include the region’s quality of life, local tax credits and the proximity of the region to New York and Boston.
