    CASTLETON — Dennis Michael Bronson Sr., 64, died Nov. 7, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    He was born Nov. 8, 1949, in Middlebury, the son of Lloyd Bronson and Kay (Burt) Bronson.

    He graduated from Fair Haven Union High School in 1967, and Castleton State College in 1999, with a bachelor’s degree in history and education.

    He served in the United States Navy, retiring in 1992. He served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm, spending all of his time on the West coast.

    He married Elaine Smith on Oct. 4, 1986, in Bomoseen.

    He taught history for a year at Mount Anthony Union High School, and then worked for General Electric in Rutland for 10 years, until he became disabled.

    Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Castleton; two daughters, Emelia of Glens Falls, N.Y., and Celina of Castleton; a son, Dennis Jr. of Milton; three brothers, Lloyd Jr. and William, both of Castleton, and Kevin of Center Rutland; three sisters, Diane Jamieson of Hydeville, Shannon Taylor of Bomoseen, and Kathy Taylor of Interlachen, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents.

    He enjoyed cooking and reading, and before he became ill, he enjoyed walking.

    There will be a remembrance celebration at the American Legion in Castleton on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m.

    A private ceremony will be held at a later date. He is being cremated and will be buried at sea, per his request. There are no calling hours.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
