    SPRINGFIELD — Marjorie Phyllis Blodgett Russell, 91, died Sept. 29, 2013.

    She was born April 25, 1922, in Stratford, N.H., the daughter of Howard and Cora Blodgett.

    The family moved to Springfield, where she started third grade. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1940.

    She married David B. Russell in 1941. In 1944, the couple bought a farm on Parker Hill in Springeld, where they raised their family.

    She was active in community organizations, including the South Street School PTA, the Springfield Garden Club, the Parker Hill Association and Precision Valley Squares. She was also a 4-H leader for many years, and created the Springfield 4-H Horse Club.

    She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, sewing, creating quilts for her grandchildren, raising horses and dogs, and competing in dog obedience trials.

    Survivors include a son, David Russell of Somerville, Mass.; two daughters, Patricia Saylor of South Windsor, Conn., and Marjorie Raymond of Addison; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Slade.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156; or to the First Congregational Church UCC of Springfield, 77 Main St., Springfield, VT 05156.

    A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, UCC in Springfield, Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jean O’Bresky, pastor, will officiate.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
