    James J. Sheehan, 78, of Rutland died September 18, 2013, at his home, unexpectedly.

    He was born July 11, 1935, in Ludlow, Vermont, the son of Raymond Geehan and Mildred (Stephens) Sheehan.

    He was a graduate of Black River High School.

    On December 29, 1985, he married the love of his life, Cynthia (Carpenter).

    Jim was an Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War.

    Throughout his life he enjoyed a variety of career opportunities, including owning and operating Jim’s Enterprises. He retired in 1997. Jim enjoyed fishing and traveling to Maine. He liked to visit with friends and fellow crafters when helping Cynthia at craft shows.

    In the last year, Jim started making walking sticks to assist those with mobility needs. Jim enjoyed woodworking and began making doll furniture for the RSVP Operation Dolls and More Program.

    Jim was the founding member of the Wallingford American Legion and a member of the Rutland American Legion, a past Governor of Rutland Moose Lodge #1122, and a past Commander of the VFW #648.

    Jim will be missed by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and others who have survived him: his wife, Cynthia, his daughter Cheryl James (Charles), a stepdaughter Pamela Reed (Richard), and stepson Timothy Plante (Nancy). He is survived by three sisters: Janice Benson (George), Jean Birdsey (Ken), and Sandra Bixby (Milton). His brother, Doug Sheehan also survives him, as well as his brother-in-law Harry Gruber.

    He is predeceased by his parents, three sisters: Gloria Stewart, Arlene Gruber and Irene Sheehan, and four brothers: Ray, John, Don and Bill Geehan.

    At Jim’s request, there are no calling hours. A graveside service at the Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont, will be held on October 1, 2013, at 1 p.m.
