    Phyllis J. Marceau

The flowers of summer had started to lose the luster of their brilliant seasonal colors, and their petals softly floated in the breeze as they scattered on the ground. The days of summer were once again drawing to a close. So too the days, which comprised so many years in the lifetime of Phyllis J. Marceau, had also drawn to a close as she was peacefully called away from her earthly existence on September 10, 2013. Phyllis’ life clock stopped after more than 81 years.

She was born in Rutland on October 18, 1931, the daughter of Phillip E. Matt and Bernice I. (Buswell) Matt in Rutland. Phyllis spent her entire lifetime in the Rutland area. She was educated in the Rutland School System and graduated from Rutland High School. She was an accomplished and well respected hair stylist, who worked for many years at the Continental Hair People Salon on State Street in Rutland. Following her “retirement” from her profession, she continued to work as a cashier at the Rutland Price Chopper store. Phyllis loved to interact with people, and these occupations helped to provide the conversations and friendships she looked forward to each day.

She was married to her late husband, Stuart Marceau, for some forty years. Together they enjoyed entertaining family members and friends. Holidays were always special occasions for both of them, as they opened their Mendon home for countless “celebrations” throughout the year. Moreover, frequently she and Stuart would join other relatives and friends to travel to various picturesque vacation spots throughout the United States.

Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband, Stuart, who died on November 4, 2012. She was also predeceased by her two brothers: Bruce and Gary Matt, and by a sister: Diane Wallett. She is survived by her son, Rodney Marceau of Boise, Idaho, and her two grandsons: Jason and Aaron Marceau. She is also survived by two sisters: Audrey Walsh and her husband, Joseph of Norton, MA, and Yvonne Bunny Zsido and her husband, David of Rutland. In addition, she leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

Respecting her wishes, there will not be any calling hours or funeral service. There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Italian American Club on 73 Grove Street in Rutland at 4 p.m. Please only bring your friendship; a warm smile; perhaps some photos; and of course, your favorite memories.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in Stuart’s memory, in care of the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main Street, Rutland, VT 05701.
