OAKHAM, Mass. — Charlotte Joyce Megarry, 68, of Oakham, MA, and Benson, VT, passed away in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, after a 7-year battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in Fall River, daughter of Edward and Jean (McLeod) Megarry.
Joyce leaves behind her partner, Edward Ostrout; sister, Susan (Donald) Reed of Ojai, CA; nieces, Allison (Stephen) Reed-Glenn of Ojai, CA, and Carolyn (Doug) Kirkpatrick of Queenstown, New Zealand; nephews, Matt (Jamie) Reed of Anchorage, AK, Bruce (Freddie) Robbins of Santa Clara, CA, and Jeffery (Shannon) Robbins of East Hampton, CT; grandnephews, Liam Kirkpatrick and Colin Kirkpatrick and grandniece, Julia Reed; also a special cousin, Francis (Allen) Webb of VA. Her sister, Jean Robbins Scott, predeceased her.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the VNA Hospice Team and especially to Nurse Paulette Halihan. They also wish to thank the Dana Farber Head Neck Oncology Team, notably Jason Glass NP, for all the medical and compassionate care given to Joyce.
She was a member of the Rotary Club of the Brookfield’s, a former member of the Oakham Conservation Commission and The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association. She also was a former member of the North Brookfield Theater Guild.
Joyce graduated from North Brookfield High School, and then went on to graduate from Becker College. She later earned her B.S. Degree in Business from Clark University.
Joyce spent her working career in business management for small companies in Massachusetts, Connecticut and California. She eventually became an expert in the high stress world of startup businesses, retiring in 1999.
Joyce was an active outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed swimming, sailing, hiking, cross-country skiing and photography. She especially liked kayaking on Perch Pond and on Lake Champlain in Benson, VT.
At Joyce’s request, there are no calling hours or services. There will be a Celebration of Life Remembrance at a later date.

Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
