    MONTPELIER ó Vermontís congressional delegation says the federal government has provided more than $556 million to help the state recover from damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

    The delegation released figures Friday that show federal agencies have spent or promised to spend money in a variety of categories. These include $210 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $150 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

    The Small Business Administration has made more than $35 million in loans to homeowners and businesses.

    The Aug. 28, 2011 storm dropped up to 11 inches of rain on parts of the state. It killed six people, destroyed or damaged more than 500 miles of roads and 200 bridges. Thousands of people were left homeless.
