WOODSTOCK — Mary Merchant, 97, of The Homestead, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
She was born July 3, 1916, in Claremont, N.H.,, the daughter of Vida (Milan) and John “Jack” Edmonds.
She attended school in Windsor and nursery maid training at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, afterward working as a nanny in Windsor.
On Aug. 5, 1944, she married James A. Merchant. Mr. Merchant died in 1996.
At Reading Farms, she was employed as nursery maid and later, housekeeper and cook, until retiring in 2002 after 56 years of service.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Woodstock.
Survivors include her only child, Naxcie Merchant of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Jeanann Buckman of Windsor; a grandson, great-grandson and step-greatgrandson; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
The memorial and remembrance service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at First Congregational Church of Woodstock, 36 Elm St., officiated by the Rev. Norman Koop, pastor.
Burial will be private.
