• Brooks House sold to local developers

    BRATTLEBORO -- The burned-out Brooks House, gutted during an April 2011 fire in downtown Brattleboro, has finally been sold to a group of local developers.

    The long-awaited sale was consummated Monday said Bob Stevens, one of the principals of Mesabi LLC, the local group which will redevelop the local historic landmark.

    Stevens said a formal groundbreaking will be held July 17 at 1 p.m., with Gov. Peter Shumlin on hand.

    Total cost of the project is estimated at $24 million. Construction is expected to take a year.

    The renovated Brooks House will have two anchor tenants in the form of the Community College of Vermont and the local campus of Vermont Technical College.
