EAST RUPERT — Betty Tobin, 78, a resident of East Rupert, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Albany, New York, Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born in Rutland, Vermont, on July 22, 1934, the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Gladys Elizabeth Taylor. She received her education in Rutland schools, graduating from Rutland High School and earning her bachelor’s degree from Southern Vermont College.
Betty worked for John Hancock Insurance Co. for many years. She also worked as the executive secretary for the town manger in Manchester and was interim town manager for Manchester for three months. Betty was a member of the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert where she was very active as a member of the Hospitality Committee, Missions and was the UCC representative for the Southern Vermont Chapter.
Betty loved to read and write and loved taking vacation trips. She had a wonderful sense of humor, evident by her joke telling. She loved her home and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Tobin of East Rupert; her sister, Cynthia Hier and her husband Bill of Poultney, Vermont; her very close cousin, also considered a brother, Bob Crossman of West Winfield, New York; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Bob Taylor.
A celebration of the life of Betty Tobin will be held Sunday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert. Rev. Dr. James Gray will officiate. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
