BELLOWS FALLS — Village President Roger Riccio was re-elected as Bellows Falls village president Tuesday, easily out-distancing two challengers.

Village voters also re-elected Trustee Colin James and elected Charlie Hunter to a spot on the board as well.

Riccio, executive director of the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce, had 217 votes to 80 votes for former Village President Lance Allen. Trustee Deb Wright, who was running for village president as well as her trustee position, received 77 votes.

Hunter was the top vote getter for trustee with 197, James had 173 votes; other candidates were Scott Falzo with 154 votes, Leslie White with 138 votes, and Wright, who got 61 votes.

Wright attributed her double defeat to her outspokeness and her opposition to merging the village of Bellows Falls with the town of Rockingham. The matter has been a perennial political issue, but is not currently under active discussion.

Wright is vice chairwoman of the Rockingham Free Public Library, which recently voted to close the library building while renovations are being completed on handicapped accessibility improvements. Wright said she didn’t think that controversial vote played a role in her fate at the polls.
