GRANVILLE, N.Y. — Charles C. Sherman, 81, died May 18, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 28, 1931, in North Poultney, Vt., the son of Solon O. and Florence (Ranney) Sherman.
He graduated from Poultney High School in 1949. Following graduation, he attended Long Island Ag. and Tech College, and graduated with an associate degree from Cobleskill College in 1952.
He married Norine (Owens) Sherman on Oct. 30, 1954, at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.
He owned and operated both a dairy farm and an apple orchard, both in Granville, for many years. During those years he also worked at Arkell & Smith Paper Co. in Fenimore, and later at General Electric Co. in Hudson Falls.
He enjoyed farming, planting trees, gardening, woodworking, canoeing and spending time at the family camp on Lake Bomoseen in Vermont.
He was a member of the Hartford Senior Citizens and served as a trustee for several years. He was also a member of the New York Forest Owners Assn., and Washington County Cooperative Extension.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Norine; his daughters, Diane Briggs of Delmar, Brenda Girard of Granville, and Ellen Sherman of Albany; four grandchildren; a brother Solon Sherman of Hartford, N.Y., three sisters, Dorothy Mitchell of West Pawlet, Carol Causey of Monroe, La., and Hilda Bellot of Gainesville, Fla; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Priscilla Roof, Marilyn Fuguay, and Florence Beebe.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the funeral home. Following visitation, a brief service will be held at 7:30 p.m., with Jean Malone, Washington Hospice Spiritual Care Counselor, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haynes House of Hope, Box 285, Granville, NY 12832; or to Washington County Hospice, 415 Lower Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
