    BENNINGTON — Ralph G. Quackenbush III, 63, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation, following a brief illness.

    He was born in Bennington on April 13, 1950, the son of Ralph G. Quackenbush II and Leota (Carmichael) Quackenbush Amundsen.

    He was a 1968 graduate of Hoosick Falls (N.Y.) High School.

    In earlier years, Mr. Quackenbush was employed at Globe Union Corp. and Johnson Controls. In Florida, he later owned and operated White Line Trucking until retiring in 2000.

    He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 in Bennington.

    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, ATV rides on the mountain and his “Camp Needabuck.”

    Survivors include three children, Ralph Quackenbush IV of Hoosick Falls, Kristy Walker of Waupun, Wis., and James Quackenbush of Bennington; six grandchildren; three siblings, Patricia Vitenberg of Saratoga, N.Y., Marie DeCoff of Bennington and Michael Quackenbush of Jacksonville, Fla.; two half-sisters, Joan LeBlanc of Wildwood, Fla., and Susan Quackenbush of North Adams, Mass.; three step-siblings, Linda Pierce, Danny Wirasnik, both of Bennington, and Joe Wirasnik of Hartland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Mr. Quackenbush was predeceased by a sister, Hilda.

    The memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, May 21, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 a.m. prior to the service.

    Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Bennington.
