    SPRINGFIELD — Gwendolyn L. Pelletier, 96, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Mount Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.

    She was born May 11, 1917, in Springfield, the daughter of Julian and Bertha (Summers) Lashua.

    She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School.

    On Nov. 19, 1938, she married Elwin C. Pelletier at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield. He predeceased her on Sept. 30, 1988.

    She was employed as a clerk in the repair department at Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Co. in Springfield for 37 years. She later worked for the State of Vermont in social services for 17 years.

    She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and embroidering.

    She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Also a member of the Springfield Senior Center and R.S.V.P., she was active with bake sales and knitting for the R.S.V.P. and the Senior Center, and donated knitting for the Santa Clause Club in Springfield. She was a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary at the Robert L. Johnson Post 771 in Springfield. She was past president of the State Auxiliary and held several offices locally. She also volunteered at the Springfield Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.

    Survivors include a son Robert Pelletier of Springfield; a daughter Marie Pelletier Martin of Henniker, N.H.; two grandchildren; and a brother Arnold Lashua of Springfield. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Lashua and Edward Lashua, and also by a sister Anna Streeter.

    A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springfield. The Rev. Shawn Therrien will officiate. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. Post 771 in Springfield.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156, or to the charity of one’s choice.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
