The Rutland GE Aviation plants have been awarded an additional $2.6 million for a Navy contract for the development and production of fighter engines for the EA-18G Growler, the office of Sen. Patrick Leahy announced Friday.
The modification is to a previously awarded contract. It comes on the heels of a $5.4 million contract made to GE Rutland last week.
The contract is being divided among several GE plants and totals more than $22 million.
GE Rutland received 12 percent — about $2.6 million — of the additional work.
Leahy is the most senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Defense Subcommittee.
GE has invested more than $75 million over three years in its Rutland blade and vane plants on Windcrest Road and Columbian Avenue.MORE IN This Just InTOMORROW'S HEADLINES TODAY: Josh O'Gorman reports on the impact of state budget cuts on state colleges, Rutland Town welcomes Donna Zeller as town clerk, Bryanna Allen in Killington for chili cookoff and Haley talks up big Shrine game with N.H. and Vt. 0Rutland Herald News Editor Alan J.
