    asleep at wheel

Re: “Potential biomass plant traffic alarms Chester Select Board.”

If ever there was an award for public officials being asleep at the wheel, first place would go to the Chester Select Board. My alarm here is less over truck traffic and more over the Select Board somnambulating for the last year and only now waking up to realize the impact this biomass plant will have on our communities.

Citizens of Springfield have been writing about the health and environmental hazards of wood biomass burning for the last 12 months. Where has Chester been? How did they think the 30-ton truck loads of wood were going to get from New Hampshire and areas south and east of Springfield? By rail? By air? By wishing that they wouldn’t come down Route 11 and Route 106? Hello? Is anyone home?
