EAST DORSET — Clyde W. “Jack” Frost, 79, a longtime resident of East Dorset, passed away March 7, 2013, at his home. Jack was born in Danbury, Connecticut, on September 29, 1933, the son of Hollis and Agnes I. (Hawley) Frost. Jack attended Danbury High School, Dean Academy and The Colorado School of Mines where he graduated with his degree as a mining engineer. Jack was a member of the United States Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier “Midway” as an aviation electronics technician during the Korean conflict. His tour included two Mediterranean cruises. Jack went to work for Colorado Fuel and Iron as an exploration engineer on the White Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona, then U.S. Gypsum as quarry superintendent in Western Massachusetts, and Ingersoll-Rand as a sales engineer. Jack, with his partners, Stavens Brothers, formed Stavens and Frost which is now known as Frost Wells and Pumps, and had owned and operated the business since 1965. Jack was very civically involved in his community. He was a past Rotarian, a lister and selectman in Dorset for 12 years, retiring in October of 2004, and a member of the United Church of Christ of Dorset and East Rupert. Jack was an avid skier and became very involved with the ski patrol and ski racing programs, first at Bromley, then at Stratton. In the early-1970s, he built a ski tow at the family property.
Jack is survived by his children, David Frost and his wife Barbara of Lenox, Massachusetts, Daniel Frost and Jill Bradley of East Dorset, Michael Frost and his wife Karen of Charlotte, Vermont, Robert Frost and his wife Ann of Hinesburg, Vermont, and Heidi Frost and her husband Ed Torres of Norwalk, Connecticut; his stepchildren, Andrew Hazelton and Margaret Rosa of Manchester, Robert Hazelton and his wife Elizabeth of Richmond, Virginia, and Amy Martin and her husband John of Avon, Connecticut; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Longacre Frost, formerly Sarah L. Hazelton, who died March 25, 2011, and their granddaughter, Gracie Hazelton.
A celebration of the life of Clyde W. “Jack” Frost will be held Friday afternoon, March 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert. Rev. Dr. James Gray will officiate. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
