Arthur R. Hughes

HYDEVILLE — Arthur R. Hughes, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Castleton, the son of Thomas and Mary (Smith) Hughes.

He graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1942.

Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving in England during World War II.

He was the bottling superintendent for 30 years at Cocoa Cola Bottling Co. in Rutland, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Fair Haven.

Mr. Hughes was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bingo and gardening.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Mott of Florida and Katherine LaPine of Bomoseen, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, June Hughes, in 1982; and eight siblings, Florence Gordon, Ruth Steele, John, James, Kenneth, Harold, Thomas II and Charles Hughes.

The memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home.
