    THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Frederick C. Vogell, 88, died peacefully Friday, February 8, 2013, at his home in The Villages, Fla.

    Frederick Vogell was born in Plattsburg, N.Y., July 10, 1924, and was the only son of Reverend Frederick Vogell, DD, and Anna Lightle Vogell.

    He attended Asbury College and received a doctorate degree in medicine from Duke University in 1947. Graduate training in surgery was in Boston, Mass., and Lexington, Ky., and obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia Presbyterian, NYC.

    After one year at a mission hospital in India, he served two years as a captain with the 15th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War.

    Frederick began an obstetrical and gynecological practice in Caribou, Maine, remaining there for 10 years. He moved to Springfield, Vt., maintaining a practice until he retired in 1992. Dr. Vogell participated in over 6,000 births and served his speciality as both vice chairperson and chairperson of the Vermont Section of The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

    Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and golf. He was an active member of Crown Point Country Club, Stratton Mountain CC and The Forest CC.

    He moved to The Villages, Fla., in 2001 and leaves his wife of 35 years, Tisha. He also leaves two sons, Frederick W. Vogell of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Karl Vogell of Springfield, Vt.; three daughters, Deborah Piazza of Gulf Port, Fla., Lisa Vogell of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Stephanie Smith of Lempster, N.H.; two stepsons, Shawn Millay of Four Oaks, N.C., and Michael Millay of Springfield, Vt.; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his grandson, Chailen Piazza.
