    Julie Fairchild Cooper, 76, of Rutland, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 24, 1936, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of William Warren and Christine Marguerite (Germond) Fairchild.

    She graduated from the Krouse School of Music at Syracuse University in 1957.

    Mrs. Cooper was educated as a teacher and employed by various boards of education. She also worked at General Electric as a machinist in the Aircraft Engine Group.

    She was a member of the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, ham radio (KB1APN)-Green Mountain Wireless Club and Wireless Club and Wireless Women of Vermont, and also was passionate about her work with PFLAG and Vermont Freedom to Marry.

    Mrs. Cooper enjoyed her volunteer work at Grace Congregational UCC, the Community Cupboard, teaching at the Rutland Correctional Facility and taking care of her many cats over the years.

    She was married to Peter I. Cooper. He died January 2, 2010.

    Survivors include a brother, William W. Fairchild of Schenectady, NY; and nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her son, Christopher W. Kimble, and a brother, Robert D. Fairchild.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date in Grace Congregational United Church of Christ.

    There will be no calling hours.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, 8 Court St., Rutland, VT 05701; or the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.

    Tossing Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
