My name is Melinda Humphrey, and I am running for the Board of Aldermen in Rutland City. I graduated with degrees in economics and philosophy in 2004. I am 31 years old, and I have lived and worked in Rutland County for six years, since I moved here to work at Central Vermont Public Service, settling here in Rutland City about two years ago when I bought my first home.

I am currently employed at the Energy Innovation Center at Green Mountain Power, and when not at work I spend most of my free time volunteering in the city. As an active volunteer with Rutland Amateur Hockey Association, our local youth hockey program, I serve as a coach and board member. I am also active in other community events — participating in blood drives, fundraisers to benefit local residents and charities — and I’m always looking for a new activity to try out with Rutland Recreation.

Since moving here, I have thrived both personally and professionally. There is always something positive and fun happening in Rutland City, and that is why I love living here. I have made so many friends and connections here in Rutland City, whether it is through Rutland recreation programs, our local women’s hockey club, Saturday’s farmers market or any of the numerous events hosted at the Paramount Theater.

I would like to become an alderman so that I can help keep Rutland our favorite place to live, work and play. I will take a commonsense, responsible approach to maintain the positive aspects of our community and devise plans of action to improve where necessary.

If Rutland isn’t your favorite place to live, work and play — please contact me to let me know what I can do to help make it that way.

Please vote at your local polling place on March 5, and consider Melinda Humphrey for alderman.
