MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — A 51-year-old local woman escaped injury in a crash that destroyed her car on West Street.

Sherry Reed was driving on the road just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when she struck a patch of black ice and her 2000 Saturn SL1 spun out of control, police said. The vehicle came to rest on its side near the road.

Police said Reed, who wore her seatbelt, was unhurt and escaped through a broken rear window.
