A Rutland woman was arrested as part of an investigation into prostitution in South Burlington, according to police.

Courtney Samplatsky, 25, was charged with giving false information to a police officer and held on that charge along with a number of active arrest warrants, according to a statement issued Sunday by the South Burlington Police Department.

Sgt. David Solomon said investigators' attention had been drawn to the Anchorage Inn on Dorset Street.

“We're seeing more and more prostitution issues in the area,” Solomon said, “I think it's always been here. I think we're taking a harder look at it because where you have prostitution, you generally have drugs, you generally have criminals. The guys pimping out these girls are not angels. They're not clean-cut businessmen.”

Police had contact with Samplatsky at the Anchorage on Saturday after they smelled marijuana there, Solomon said, and the continuing investigation found that she had given them a false name during that contact.

It also found she “was involved in Internet advertising for escort services,” according to police, and had arrest warrants with a total of $15,000 bail attached to them issued for her. Solomon said those warrants were for charges including forgery, driving without a license, possession of a regulated drug and possession of cocaine.

Solomon said there had not been any other arrests in the investigation as of early Sunday afternoon.

Samplatsky was held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center, according to police.
