Woman denies shorting Eagles Club $800

BENNINGTON — A Main Street woman is facing criminal charges after police said she cashed at least nine checks while an employee at the Eagles Club, leaving the club at a loss for more than $800.

Jasmine L. Millette, 25, of Bennington, was arraigned in Bennington criminal court Tuesday on nine misdemeanor charges of using false tokens to obtain less than $900. Millette pleaded innocent to the charges and was released on $5,000 bail.

In an affidavit, Officer David Rowland, of the Bennington Police Department, said he had originally been contacted by a representative of the Eagles Club in late 2011. Rowland said he was given copies of checks Millette wrote from her account in November and December, 2011, and cashed at the club although there were insufficient funds to cover the checks.

Rowland said he spoke to Millette at the time and she agreed to work out a repayment plan. However, Rowland said he later learned Millette had not made repayment. The club’s officials asked Rowland to resume the process of pursuing criminal charges.

According to Rowland, Millette did not return calls and failed to meet him at the police station as he requested. He said “numerous attempts” to locate her were unsuccessful.

Charges were filed in November 2012 and an arrest warrant, which was served Tuesday, was issued.

According to Rowland, Millette has a criminal record in Vermont.
