• Billings Farm features Estonian film
    December 29,2012

WOODSTOCK — The Billings Farm and Museum will show the 2009 documentary “Disco and the Atomic War” today at 3 p.m.

The documentary takes place in Soviet-occupied Estonia where the Soviet Union waged an information war against Western pop culture — and lost. The film shows how Finnish television influenced Estonians even when the Soviet authorities blocked it.

Estonians did not care about Vladimir Ilyich Lenin or Karl Marx. Instead, Estonians wanted to know who shot J.R. Ewing from the hit TV series “Dallas” and the latest disco moves.

The movie is subtitled in English and runs 80 minutes. For tickets, call 457-2355 or visit www.billingsfarm.org/filmfest.

The Billings Farm and Museum is at Route 12 and River Road in Woodstock.
